First, you need to know which yachts allow pets on a yacht and which do not! There are several factors to consider before taking your pet on vacation with you. You must verify that your dog is active and healthy and that he or she will be comfortable in a different environment.

It is also crucial to think ahead about whether your holiday locations are dog-friendly, what pet supplies you need, and how to make your pet enjoy the vacation as much as you. Take care of your pet’s safety, paperwork and health!

In addition, many pets adore the water and would appreciate a trip on a yacht with their favourite owners, but some pets are afraid of the water, so a week or two on a yacht may not be a smart idea for them. When planning your vacation, keep your pet’s unique personality in mind.

Here are some of the most important things you need to know before boarding your beloved pet on a superyacht in Croatia.

Safety on board is the most important factor for pets on a yacht

The most important thing is the safety of your pets on a yacht. Let your crew arrange special life jackets to keep them safe during all weather conditions. It will be great if your pet also had an international microchip with a GPS locator that can be connected to any collar. This is important if your pet jumps while the yacht is cruising or gets lost onshore.

Furthermore, you need to know that your pet might be scared of walking while the yacht is moving so keep in mind that you need to pick them up and move from the cabin to the cabin or from various decks.

Make a plan for entry in Croatia

Croatia’s pet-entry laws and procedures are in accordance with what you would expect from a member of the European Union. A microchip is required for all pets, as well as a pet passport or proof of authorization. They must also be vaccinated against rabies and have a clean bill of health.

In addition, things are a little more difficult for pets younger than three months. If your pet is in that category you should not actually take it on a trip. Better think about your hometown`s pet hotel or leave it in the safe hands of your friends or relatives.

Keep your pets away from the sun

If you decide to charter a yacht in the peak summer months, consider that pets can experience sunburn and heatstroke as well. Provide them with shade and lots of water, keep them cool with regular swims in the crystal clear Croatian Adriatic Sea, and think about applying sunscreen, if they are short-haired.

If you need any kind of assistance, your lovely crew will help you at any time of your vacation. Let them know and they will prepare sunscreen for pets as well as for you because no one wants to get sunburned while enjoying the perfect vacation in Croatia.

Your favourite pets must also have a special outdoor place that will protect them from the sun, either a little house on the flybridge or a part of the main deck aft. It would be great if you limit his or her exposure to the sun.

Keep your pets hydrated during a yacht charter

Your pet might get confused because this is his or her first time onboard. Because of that, you need to leave water bowls all around the yacht to make sure they stay hydrated at all times.

During hot Croatian summers, it is also recommended to change the water bowl several times a day, but you must be sure to avoid cold water, to avoid inflammation of the throat, tonsils, etc.

If you decide to take your dog on a one-day excursion, let your crew take care of water bowls and extra shade.

The yacht crew will help you at any time

If you decide on a yacht charter vacation, you can always invite an extra guest, like a vet or an animal coach that will be part of the crew. They might help you with any injury or illness and your pet will appreciate it.

Furthermore, besides arranging water bowls and sun cream, your crew will also arrange special bathroom areas for your pet. Let them know about his or her habits to keep your pet happy and fully satisfied while cruising on a superyacht.

Tell your local broker to supply your yacht with anything extra needed, like special food or toys.
